Hypertherm, a manufacturer of advanced metal cutting systems, is expanding its line of Centricut brand performance consumables for Kaliburn Spirit and ProLine plasma cutting systems. The consumables, designed for stainless steel cutting while using air as the plasma gas, last an average of 20 % longer than OEM original consumables. This longer life is due in part to better cooling resulting from Hypertherm’s patented CoolFlow nozzle technology.
Up to now, the intermediate transmission housing for the Actros truck from Daimler has been produced in permanent mold casting. A support arm in steel needed to be fitted to the part in addition. The engineers at Daimler AG have succeeded together with the Martinrea Honsel project team in optimizing the design of the part such that the support arm to attach the transmission to the chassis can now be cast on to it rather than mounted separately.
The focus of attention will be on India’s growing automotive sector at the Auto Expo Delhi, which is taking place from January 5 to 11, 2012. With the motto efficient future mobility, Schaeffler is presenting a large number of innovations for optimizing conventional drive trains with internal combustion engines in Delhi. The highlight of the Schaeffler booth is the concept model Schaeffler advanced Drive, which showcases a range of advanced detailed solutions for engines, transmissions and chassis.
"Across the board, 2011 has provided record results and series production growth of approximately 50 %. Our track record for series production growth is strong and consistent, with every single quarter since 2008 showing positive growth", said Dr. Steve Dawson, President & CEO of SinterCast. In the third quarter of 2011, revenues declined by 1.7 % in comparison with the second quarter of 2011 due to the traditionally weaker steel business in the summer months and the seasonal effect in the cement industry. The operating result dropped 2.0 % to 39.2 million euros and the operating result margin of 9,1 % is slightly below the figure of 9,2 % in the second quarter.
Following three years of niche volume prodcution of Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI) cylinder heads, compressor housings and other bespoke components for the industrial power industry, Mid-City Foundry Company, USA, has ordered a process control system from the Swedish CGI process control specialist, SinterCast. The Mini-System 3000, which will be installed during December 2011, supersedes the need for SinterCast´s on-site engineering support for each CGI casting session and provides Mid-City with fully independant CGI series production capability. The CGI components producted at Mid-City Foundry range from 100 kg to 550 kg and are all used in the demanding industrial power sector, particularly for the off-shore oil and gas industries.
The first BRAZIL WELDING SHOW which took place in the Expocenter Norte in the Brazilian metropolis of Sao Paulo on October 18-21, 2011 is making a positive assessment. 144 international exhibitors from 16 countries (including 42 participants from Brasil) showed the newest welding and joining technologies. Around 13,000 visitors obtained information at the BRAZIL WELDING SHOW and at Corte & Conformacao de Metais, South America´s largest trade fair for metal fabrication and forming. Both events took place in parallel on a total area of 34,000 m² and complemented each other in an outstanding manner. Visitors as well as exhibitors were able to profit from newly created synergetic effects.
The Chinese-Japanese joint venture, Dongfeng Nissan Passenger, Vehicle Company, has placed an order with SMS Meer for the supply of a wedge press with forging roll. The machines are intended for the new forging works Guanghzou (Huadu Province, China). The plant will enable Dongfeng Nissan to produce various con rod sizes for passenger cars flexibly and fully automatically in a minimum of time.
Continuous casting technology specialist, Rautomead Limited, of Dundee, Scotland, has secured a highly significant order from Doowell, a major Taiwanese-owned OEM cable assembly manufacturer with a number of large manufacturing plants in China including its main facility in Xiamen employing around 5,000 people. Rautomead is to supply an RS 3000/6 upwards-vertical continuous casting machine to produce oxygen-free copper redraw rod. Building on SinterCast´s longstanding support of Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI) product development in the industrial power sector, the Toa Koki foundry of Japan, one of the world´s leading foundries for the production of large marine and stationary diesel engine components, has ordered a mini system 3000. The installation, sheduled for early-december follows more than two years of on-site trials and technical support during the initial product development phase and provides Toa Koki with independent CGI product development capability in the lead-up to series production. With the potential for the production of more than 100,000 Engine Equivalents per year in the near-term, the installation at Toa Koki provides the opportunity for SinterCast to increase its production of components beyond the core automotive cylinder block and head sector. At present, components other than automotive cylinder blocks and heads account for approximately 15 % of Sinter Cast´s series production volume.
